The Celtic Manor Wales Open - European Tour

The first competitive action seen on The Twenty Ten Course, the venue for The 2010 Ryder Cup, will take the form of the Celtic Wales Open this week. South Africa’s Richard Sterne, the defending champion will be looking to keep the red hot local favourite, Bradley Dredge quiet, as well as the first time entrant for this tournament, Padraig Harrington. Now in its ninth year and with an increased prize fund of £1.8 million, The Celtic Manor Wales Open is one of the top ten events on The European Tour International Schedule and continues to enjoy a prime early summer date.

BMW PGA Championship - European Tour

This week sees one of the gems on the European Tour - The BMW PGA Championship, at Wentworth GC in Surrey, England. Everything about the Championship oozes class, from the superb golf played on the beautifully manicured fairways and greens of the West Course to the sumptuous hospitality units surrounding the 18th green and the ultimate spectator experience within the state-of-the art Tented Village. A trip to this leafy corner of Surrey is always special but there is a particular resonance this time round, for 2008 represents the 25th year in a row that the tournament has been played at Wentworth Club.

This will be the fourth year of BMW’s sponsorship of the Championship and to recognise that fact, alongside the 25th anniversary of the tournament at Wentworth Club itself, the 150-strong field will be competing for a record prize fund of €4,500,000, the biggest prize fund on The 2008 European Tour International Schedule outside the Major Championships and the individual World Golf Championships.

Anders Hansen will have to be playing well to defend his title from last year.

The Irish Open - European Tour

This week the European Tour moves to the Emerald Isle at the Adare Manor Hotel and Golf Resort, with one of the most prestigious titles in World Golf - The Irish Open. Padraig Hamilton will be seeking to defend the title he won last year at the same course.

In three successive weeks recently on The European Tour, the man with the silverware in his hands come Sunday night has been Irish: Damien McGrane in the Volvo China Open; Darren Clarke in the BMW Asian Open; and Peter Lawrie in the Open de España, the trio adding to Graeme McDowell’s victory in the inaugural Ballantine’s Championship in Korea in March.

Italian Open - European Tour

Twelve months ago the  Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño claimed his third European Tour victory at the beautiful Castello di Tolcinasco Golf and Country Club on the outskirts of Milan when he recovered a five shot deficit at the start of the final round to eventually beat Austria’s Markus Brier at the second hole of a sudden-death play-off. Will he be able to defend  his title in the Methorios Capital Italian Open?

Open de Espana - European Tour

The South African, Charl Schwartzel will be trying to defend his title this week at the Open de Espana at the Real Club de Golf de Sevilla in Seville, Spain.

He will be trying to keep a rampant Darren Clarke at bay after his first win on the European Tour for 5 years!  “I just want to keep playing the way I have been playing this week,” said Clarke after claiming his 11th European Tour title. “I want to keep playing golf. I think there is a lot of good golf in me yet and as frustrating a time as it has been, it is nice to see the work paying off. Hopefully I will put myself in a position to challenge for tournaments a lot more frequently. Whether I win them or not is another matter. If I keep putting myself in position hopefully I will get my fair share. “If anything, my win has given me renewed vigour to carry on and keep working because I want more of this.”

BMW Asian Open - European Tour

Henrik Stenson will be aiming to regain pole position on The European Tour Order of Merit when he returns to action in China for the BMW Asian Open at Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club this week. Stenson, overtaken by Trevor Immelman at the top of the Order of Merit after the Masters Tournament, will be joined by former European Tour Number Ones Retief Goosen and Greg Norman in an impressive line up for the first of three BMW sponsored events of the year, where Raphaël Jacquelin defends the title.

Volvo China Open -European Tour

After Trevor Immelman's fantastic victory last week in Augusta, the Tour returns to regular activities in China this week with the Volvo China Open, at Beijing CBD International GC.

Last years surprise winner, Markus Brier, from Austria, will be defending his title but Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell is seeking a quick-fire Asian double this week when he tees up in the Volvo China Open, which boasts a record prize fund of US$2,200,000. McDowell won the Ballantine’s Championship in Korea last month after defeating India’s Jeev Milkha Singh in a thrilling play-off and leads an impressive line-up of European Tour Members visiting the 2008 Olympic city.

Estoril Open, Portugal - European Tour

  Spain’s Pablo Martin, who created history last year by becoming the first amateur to win on The European Tour, returns to the scene of his finest golfing moment when he defends the Estoril Open de Portugal at Oitavos Dunes this week. An impressive field has assembled on the scenic coastline close to Lisbon, including The European Tour’s two most recent champions, Thomas Levet of France and Scotland’s Alastair Forsyth, who both attempt to add another title to their CVs after winning, respectively, in Spain and Madeira.

Open de Andalucia - The European Tour

Defending champion Lee Westwood leads The European Tour back to the mainland this week at the MAPFRE Open de Andalucía by Valle Romano.

After making its first European stop of the 2008 season on the Portuguese island of Madeira, the Tour is heading for the beautiful Aloha Golf Club on Spain’s south coast, where Westwood secured the 17th European Tour victory of his career.

Did you know that two of the toughest for the world's best players holes were at Doral Golf Resort & Spa, site of the World Golf Championships-CA Championship. The par-4, 18th ranked as the hardest hole on TOUR, playing at 4.625 during the 2007 event, and the par-4, 3rd ranked as the third most difficult with a 4.567 scoring average.

So will Tiger be the one to win the $1.35 million first-place prize and the Gene Sarazen Cup?
